Quick updates & housekeeping
I hope you all had a nice New Years weekend!!
For the past couple months I’ve been sending out my “Talking Technicals” newsletter on the weekends with my technical analysis for 50+ charts. I hope some of you have enjoyed that content however I don’t think it makes sense to keep including it as part of Jonah’s Growth Stocks because this is where I post/share my deep dive writeups and I’m not sure how many of you actually care as much about the charts.
For this reason and several others I’m going to create a completely separate Substack with a new name (still trying to come up with something) that will focus exclusively on charts, technical analysis and my favorite trading setups.
In 2020 my portfolio was up more than 200% because I was more focused on trading and doubling down when the right opportunities presented themselves. I crushed it that year with TSLA, FSLY, NET, PTON, ROKU, FVRR, SHOP, CRWD, ZM and many others. Then in late 2021 as I launched my Substack newsletter and began doing the deep dives I got away from trading and focused more on longer term investing, mostly because it’s less stressful and more tax efficient (long term cap gains) versus trading (short term cap gains).
Now that I’m running two separate portfolios with two completely different strategies… (1) investment portfolio with 20-30 long-term positions and (2) trading portfolio with 0-12 short-term positions… it just makes more sense to have two different Substack newsletters.
The other reason I’m creating a new Substack is because I’ll be competing in the 2023 US Investing Championships which means I’ll be putting even more time and effort into my trading activities. I’ll be spending countless hours every day looking through hundreds of charts for the best trading setups (both longs and shorts) and every morning my subscribers on this new Substack will get an email with the 5-10 charts/stocks that I’m focused on for that day as well as my spreadsheet with current positions, position sizes, entry prices and stop losses.
Over the next couple days I’ll finish setting up this new Substack (after I finalize the name) and then I’ll share the link with all of you.
I think 2023 has the potential to be another volatile year where traders might do better than investors — hopefully I’m now in a position to deliver valuable content to everyone regardless of whether you’re a longer term investor or shorter term trader.
PS: my next deep dive writeup will be out in the next couple days, this is a new company (recent IPO) for my team so it’s taken a little longer to get through the due diligence process
I hope you all have a wonderful and profitable 2023 :)
Regards,
